What If I Can't Afford an Attorney?

In criminal defense cases, the State may appoint an attorney to your case, if you demonstrate income and asset eligibility.  Keep in mind, however, that the State does NOT typically appoint an attorney for your case until after you have been arrested and formally charged.  The Oregon State Bar provides excellent information regarding court-appointed attorneys. The State does not typically appoint attorneys for parents or litigants in divorce or custody cases, and most often lacks the authority to do so.   

For information regarding do-it-yourself legal help or information regarding low-cost legal help, and available legal aid programs around the state.

The Oregon State Bar can also provide information to you regarding it's Modest Means Program.

Frequently, we can give you an approximate price range and rough idea of what we would charge you based upon our first phone conversation. The actual cost of your case will depend upon many factors and will be discussed with you at the time of your initial consultation.
